Marquette Bank Employees Make Global Impact through Share Your Soles Foundation
Neighborhood Bank employees volunteer and donate shoes to local non-profit
Orland Park, IL (March 16, 2012) –– Employees of Marquette Bank, a locally-owned neighborhood bank, recently volunteered their time washing, sorting and packing shoes for he Share Your Soles Foundation, a non-profit organization, located in Alsip, Illinois. More than 40 bank employees and family members spent two days preparing shoes for shipment to Haiti and Chicagoland communities in need. Since 1999, the organization has provided over 1.2 million pairs of shoes globally to people and children in need.
As part of this effort, Marquette Bank also participated in an employee-led Neighborhood Shoe Drive. Bank employees donated nearly 500 pairs of shoes which were then sent to the Share Your Soles Foundation. This was the fourth consecutive year bank employees collected shoes on behalf of the organization. “The Share Your Soles Foundation provides our employees with a unique opportunity to make an impact in some of the most disadvantaged regions across the world,” said Betty Kosky-Harn, Executive Vice President.
The Share Your Soles Foundation was founded by Mona Purdy after a trip to Central America where she noticed how few children had access to shoes. Relying largely on the help of volunteers, the organization collects shoes at drop off locations and through shoe drives, then cleans and distributes them to needy Chicagoland residents and to impoverished communities around the world.
“When you choose to make a difference in an innocent child’s life, you bring love, hope and a sense of belonging into their life – as well as your own,” said Mona Purdy, Founder of Share Your Soles Foundation.
Marquette Bank’s participation with Share Your Soles Foundation and the Neighborhood Shoe Drive are both part of the Marquette Neighborhood Commitment where each quarter the Bank focuses on a different area of need – shelter, hunger, education and health/wellness. The Bank encourages all local neighbors and businesses to help support Share Your Soles through donations of time, money or shoes, visit www.shareyoursoles.org for details.
