Marquette Bank Celebrates Money Smart Week Chicago
Marquette Bank partners with Junior Achievement and hosts two personal finance classes to support Money Smart Week Chicago
Orland Park, IL (April 16, 2012) – Marquette Bank, a locally-owned neighborhood bank, will participate in “Money Smart Week Chicago” from April 21st to the 28th. In celebration of the awareness campaign, Marquette Bank is hosting two financial literacy classes at two of their branches in the Chicagoland area, and is partnering with Junior Achievement to host educational classes at local schools to educate young children on the basics of financial literacy. “Money Smart Week Chicago” started as a coordinated effort by the Money Smart Advisory Council, a diverse group of more than 40 Chicago-area organizations who work together to promote personal financial literacy. In 2001, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago joined the effort and agreed to share resources and ideas to achieve greater public awareness of the programs and services available in the city of Chicago. As a result, “Money Smart Week Chicago” became an annual campaign led by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago where community groups, government agencies, educational organizations, and financial institutions coordinate efforts to host seminars, activities and educational classes designed to help consumers better manage their finances. As part of Marquette Bank’s commitment to financial literacy, the Bank is partnering with Junior Achievement to host personal finance classes for the students at St. Michael School and Mariano Azuela Elementary School in Chicago. Junior Achievement is one of the largest organizations dedicated to educating students on entrepreneurship and financial literacy through volunteer sponsored programs. Marquette Bank regularly performs these educational sessions in local schools for students of all grade levels. “We are so happy to have the opportunity to partner with Junior Achievement this April to promote financial literacy to students,” stated Sandy Turner, Community Relations Officer. “It is so important that our children grow up with a solid foundation of financial insight and understanding so they can succeed in today’s world.” Marquette Bank is also celebrating “Money Smart Week Chicago” by hosting two educational classes related to financial literacy. The first is a free financial literacy class that will focus on household budgeting, maintaining a checking account, keeping up with bills and understanding credit. The class will be held on April 21st at the Marquette Bank branch located at 6316 S. Western Ave. in Chicago from 9 AM until 11 AM. The second class is the New Start Personal Finance Class which helps individuals who are trying to get back on their feet financially and repair their credit. This class will be held on April 28th at the Marquette Bank located at 5700 W. 159th St. in Oak Forest from 10 AM until 11:30 AM. Marquette Bank regularly hosts classes and seminars on a variety of topics.
