• Marquette Bank Awards Two Nonprofits in Charity Contest

Good Neighbor Gift Project Winners to receive donations and volunteer hours.

Orland Park, IL (December 12, 2012) –– Marquette Bank, a locally-owned neighborhood bank, selected the International Human Relations Council of Chicago and P.O.W.E.R. Connection of Bolingbrook as winners of its Good Neighbor Gift Project. Both organizations were awarded a donation of $1,250 and 15 volunteer hours to be completed by Marquette Bank employees.

The Good Neighbor Gift Project, a charity contest where employees were able to nominate a local nonprofit, was a spinoff of National Good Neighbor Day celebrated on Sept. 28. A total of 15 organizations were nominated and winners were selected based on a detailed application which included the organization’s mission, vision, goals, plan of how the funds would be used, project timeline and description of how the funds/volunteer hours would benefit the neighborhood.

“Marquette Bank is always seeking new partnerships and this project introduced us to several organizations that we haven’t worked with in past,” Christie Cox, Director of Neighborhood, said. “The two contest winners demonstrated a clear and effective plan to address some of the most pressing issues in our local community.”

P.O.W.E.R. Connection, located in Bolingbrook, is a nonprofit food and clothing pantry that also provides job skills training. P.O.W.E.R. is an acronym for Providing Opportunities for Work, Education, and Re-training. The charity was nominated by Leticia Deagueros, a manager at Marquette Bank’s Bolingbrook branch.

International Human Relations Council, located in Chicago, benefits those who are the most need in the community by providing food, job search help, utility bill assistance and support for children. The organization was nominated by Carol Gyimatey of the Bank’s 63rd and Western Branch.

Marquette Bank’s Good Neighbor Gift Project is part of the Marquette Neighborhood Commitment, where each quarter the Bank focuses on giving back to our communities in four areas of need: Shelter, Hunger, Education and Health/Wellness.
