• Marquette Bank Recognizes April as Fair Housing Month
Neighborhood bank educates neighbors about mortgage lending and offers home buying grants

Orland Park, IL (March 29, 2013) – Marquette Bank, a locally-owned neighborhood bank, is recognizing April as Fair Housing Month and offering neighbors a free mortgage seminar as well as grants to help qualified individuals receive affordable housing. Each year, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) designates April as Fair Housing Month to celebrate the passing of The Fair Housing Act and Marquette Bank stands ready to assist local residents in the home financing process.

“The Fair Housing Act is an important milestone for making housing affordable for all people,” Manny Jimenez, Vice President and Community Reinvestment Officer, stated. “As a neighborhood bank, we embrace The Fair Housing Act and look for proactive ways to promote home buyer education in our neighborhoods.”

Marquette Bank offers grants to homebuyers based on qualifying factors, including: income, whether it is the buyer’s first home and whether the property is in a low-and moderate-income area, among others. In addition, eligible homebuyers may be required to attend a special education session. Below are Marquette Bank’s home finance grant programs available to qualified homebuyers:

    • Marquette Bank Affordable Housing Foundation Grant (up to $5,000 in down payment assistance)

    • Federal Home Loan Bank – Down Payment Plus Program Grant ($6,000 capped at 25 percent of first mortgage amount)

    • IHDA Smart Move Loan and Down Payment Program (3 percent of purchase price to maximum amount of $6,000 in down payment assistance)

In celebration of Fair Housing Month, Marquette Bank will be offering a free mortgage seminar on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Marquette Bank branch located at 615 W. 31st St. in Chicago. The seminar will be presented by Robert Schultz, a mortgage originator, and will focus on the home buying process and how to better understand financing options and available grant programs.

Marquette Bank offers free educational opportunities throughout the year for interested individuals. Lending specialists are also available to perform free home financing workshops for local senior clubs, neighborhood churches or community groups. About Fair Housing Month:

Since 1968, April has been designated as a time to remember the Fair Housing Act and to reflect on the rights it gives citizens. The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to discriminate in housing transactions based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability or familial status. Every year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development along with communities and organizations across the country recognize Fair Housing Month by hosting an array of activities that enhance the public’s awareness of their fair housing rights and highlight the national commitment to end housing discrimination.
