• Chicago Artist John Himmelfarb’s Work on Display in Orland Park
Marquette Bank hosts local Chicago artist’s work until end of February

Orland Park, IL (January 21, 2014) – Marquette Bank, a locally-owned neighborhood bank, is currently hosting a sculpture by Chicago artist John Himmelfarb, which will be on display in Orland Park until the end of February. The work titled: “The Road Ahead Leaves a Trail Behind,” is a playful brightly-painted orange steel sculpture tucked away in a residential neighborhood across the street from the Marquette Bank corporate center near the corner of West Avenue and 151st St.

“Marquette Bank is honored to provide this unique cultural opportunity to our neighbors and south suburban residents,” Paul McCarthy, Chairman of Marquette Bank said. “As a neighborhood bank, we support all aspects of the local community, including artists, and are pleased to have received the chance to display such a vibrant, whimsical piece from an award winning Chicago artist.”

John Himmelfarb was born in Chicago and opened a studio in Chicago in 1970 after graduating from Harvard. He works in multiple mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, prints, ceramic tile, tapestry and public art. The sculpture displayed in Orland Park was completed in 2012 and has been travelling the country as part of the artist’s decade-long concentration on the imagery of trucks as an expression of the human condition.

“These works are not about trucks but about us, our histories, skills, coping mechanisms, ambitions and character.” Himmelfarb said. “My interest lies in the pure use of visual language without the baggage of imagery or narrative."

The sculpture is also featured in a new book, "TRUCKS: recent work by John Himmelfarb" and is available for pre-order on Amazon. The work will be idling until the end of February and is available for public viewing. For more information about the artist, visit his website at:
