• Marquette Bank Sends Over 80 Holiday Care Packages to Overseas Illinois Troops

Local bank celebrates Illinois soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan through its Adopt-a-Soldier Program

Orland Park, IL (November 15, 2012) –– Marquette Bank, a locally-owned neighborhood bank, recently completed its 6th annual Adopt-a-Soldier Program, where care packages are sent to troops stationed overseas during the holiday season. Throughout September and October, Marquette Bank collected donations from customers, employees and neighbors to be included in the care packages. More than 80 care packages were assembled and shipped to overseas Illinois soldiers, whose names were submitted by customers, neighbors and bank employees.

“Although a lot of troops have been able to go home, many are still serving in dangerous locations, and this may be the first Christmas they will spend without their family and friends,” Georgeanne Krueger, Assistant Vice President, said. “We want them to know that we appreciate their sacrifice to serve our country.”

Packages were prepared by Marquette Bank employees and included snacks, personal hygiene products, DVDs, games, calling cards and other items not readily available in combat zones. Items were collected at all 23 Marquette Bank locations.

Marquette Bank would like to send out a special thanks to the following individuals and organizations:

    • Tinley Park resident Nancy Hall for donating crocheted holiday wreaths
    • Local students and staff for making holiday cards, including Orland Park students from Mrs. Urbon, Mrs. Berchos and Mrs. Kneips’ classes at Centennial School, preschoolers and kindergarteners from Sandbox School and Boy Scout Troop 725 in Mokena
    • Parkview bible study group for donating homemade cookies, candy, socks and card

The annual Marquette Bank Adopt-a-Soldier Program is an employee-driven effort that is part of Marquette Bank’s Neighborhood Commitment, where each quarter the bank focuses on a different area of need – shelter, hunger, education and health/wellness.
